筆者對中印關係的前景基本上持樂觀態度。全面落實１９９６年共識共同構築建設性的合作夥伴關係是大有希望的。當前存在著諸多有利於發展兩國關係的因素，兩國一定要抓住機遇，把中印關係提高到一個新的水準。

We were basically optimistic about the prospects of the Sion-India relation. It was promising to fully implement the 1996 consensus of building the constructive partnership together. Currently, there were many factors which was conducive to the development of Sino-India relation, thus both countries should seize the opportunity to upgrade the level of Sino-India relation.
兩國政府都重視發展雙邊關係。2002年我國召開的中共十六大，進一步確立了“與鄰為善、以鄰為伴”的方針，發展與周邊國家的友好合作關係。中國新一代領導人高度重視對印關係，胡錦濤主席在國內國外已三次會見瓦傑帕伊總理，表示願同印方一道，大力加強各領域的合作，努力把兩國建設性合作夥伴關係提高到一個新水準。瓦傑帕伊總理也表示，印度政府願同中方一起努力，保持和推動兩國關係積極發展的勢頭。

Both sides attached great importance to developing the bilateral relations. In the sixteenth national congress of the communist party of China in 2002 the good-neighborly and friendly foreign policy was established and the aims of developing good-neighborly ties and partnerships with its neighbors were set. China’s new leadership highly valued the Sino-India relation and the former President Hu had met Vajpayee, the Prime Minister at that time, for three times. Former President Hu said we hoped to join hands with India to strengthen cooperation in all areas and tried hard to upgrade the level of Sino-India relation. The Prime Minister Vajpayee at that time also said that the Indian government would like to work together with China to maintain and promote the development of Sino-India relation.
